History & culture
Experience the rich historical heritage of Krk which goes back to ancient times when it was known as the Roman settlement, Curicum. The centre of Krk is located inside the fortified city walls that were first mentioned in the 1st century BC. During medieval times and the Renaissance, the city walls gained various layers and towers that are entirely preserved and can still be seen today. In fact, the towers shaped the appearance of the city of Krk, along with the Frankopan castle on the coast.
The city of Krk is a place where history is very much present in everyday life, even today – from the Temple of Venus inside the shop Memento Venerem, up to ancient ruins inside the cafe bar Volsonis. Not to mention the mosaic outlining the Roman mythology of Triton, that can be found inside the cafe Mate.

"Untouched nature, wonderful people and rich history make this place special. Architecture in the city of Krk is enchanting. Everything is built in stone like a castle, an exterior wall, a town hall, squares ... beautiful and relaxing"
