Baska Glagolitic alphabet trail

Baška tablet

The Baška Tablet is one of the most valuable Croatian monuments. It is the oldest historical record (from 1105 AD) written in the Croatian language, carved in stone in Croatian Glagolitic script. This ancient monument is also the first document of the Croatian statehood.

This unique historical document inspired the creation of the Glagolitic trail. It was a historical deed of donation in which the Croatian king Zvonimir, donated the land of Jurandvor to the Order of Saint Benedict from St. Lucy’s Abbey.

About Baska Glagolitic alphabet trail

Baska Glagolitic alphabet trail (Bašćanska staza glagoljice – BSG) is the Croatian historical outdoor route, created with the intention of erecting a monument in the Baska valley, which will remind the new generations of the importance of Glagolitic and Baska tablet in Croatian history and culture. You can download the brochure with more info here.

The trail contains 34 stone sculptures with engraved Glagolitic letters, arranged and located in some of the important localities, from the Treskavac pass along the main road, to Draga Bašćanska, Jurandvor, along Sv. Ivan on the hill to the last sculpture located on Cape Kricin in front of the Bunculuka bay. The guided tour of the trail is available for groups in Croatian, Slovenian and English and lasts about 2 hours.

Souvenirs with a glagolitic motif – a gift from Krk

A gift from Krk is a stamp that is given to a souvenir that represents the city,  its artistic, cultural or cultural-historical heritage, while also presenting its material, intangible and natural heritage.

Souvenirs, as unique memorabilia of Krk, are selected through a competition with the highly set criteria that include originality, authenticity, integrity and aesthetics, and the use of ecological materials that are also characteristic for the Krk region.

Selected souvenirs, available at the Krk Tourist Information Center, provide all the material memories of the destination – a full range of works of art, various decorative objects and clothing, local gastronomic products and more.
