Krk gaul Cristo Ressussitato
Due to its position, city of Krk in the island Krk, has a long maritime heritage of sailing and building boats. In the 16th century, when the famous Battle of Lepanto took place, the Krk Gaul Cristo Ressussitato fought on the side of the Holy League. The Holy League was founded by Pope Pius V and included the majority of Catholic maritime states in the Mediterranean.
The Battle of Lepanto was naval warfare in which the Holy League, led by the Venetian Republic, defeated the large fleet of the Ottoman Empire. The victory of the Holy League had a great impact on the history of Europe because it marked the turning-point of Ottoman military expansion into the Mediterranean. The replica of the vessel from the Krk Gaul Cristo Ressussitato can be seen today in the archeological site inside the cafe bar Volsonis.

This sailing regatta is organised with the aim to preserve and present the rich maritime heritage of island Krk. The program traditionally starts at noon, when the boats sail away from the Krk Pier.
After the regatta sailing part, there is an exhibition of the old sailing boats, live music and poetic recitals. And when the night falls down the unique picturesque night-time sailing in harbour begins.
