The island of Krk is well known for its gastronomic delicacies – prosciutto and cheese, fresh fish and scampi, homemade local pasta šurlice and the delicious local lamb. The cuisine in this area is based on the fresh vegetables and fruits that can be picked up on the local market, where you can buy them directly from the small local farmers. In the authentic stone and wooden taverns, you can also enjoy the local specialties served with the local wine Žlahtina.
The island is also popular for the production of some of the finest olive oils in the region. In the local bakeries, you can taste the fried delicacies of Fritule (fried doughnuts), kroštule and one of the most popular sweets on the island – irresistible cake Krčka kneginja (the Krk princess).
